hi guys, we finally made it,
Please find our official announcement below ...
Juergen Trapp and Tobias Gerschner announced today the availability of the
first beta release of Yoper Linux 2009 - Codename Dresden, an i686 Linux
distribution optimized for simple desktop use. This is one step closer to a
simple, yet powerful Linux desktop for the enthusiastic Linux user, that
just works, but still leaves you in control.
This release ships with Linux kernel 2.6.31, X.Org 7.5, KDE4 4.3.2, Firefox
3.5.3 and a vast range of other cutting-edge desktop packages. The focus of
this release has been on the KDE4 desktop environment which has received
most of the attention. The simple, but refined installer will allow you to
install a full KDE4 desktop environment in close to 10 minutes. A slim
installation can be done in less than 2 minutes. Perfect for those who love
to have full control over their system.
The currently available desktop environments are Fluxbox, Openbox, XFCE4,
KDE3 for the conservative user and KDE4 for the cutting edge enthusiast.
True highlights of this release are the use of a zen powered kernel by
default . Many thanks go to the team @ http://zen-sources.org/ for providing
a consistent framework to use the latest and greatest kernel additions in a
reliable manner. For the most daring of you there is also a BFS enabled
kernel available. Con Kolivas has returned into the world of kernel hacking
and the Yoper team does support his efforts in making the Linux kernel
better for desktop use. ( More information about BFS here
